    Evaluation

    • Metal Tests – Metals are tested using acid or electronic analysis to determine the cartage of the jewellery, e.g. 9ct, 14ct, 18ct, 22ct etc.
    • Gemstone Identification – Gemstones are identified using a x10 loupe or more complex techniques involving a binocular microscope, ultraviolet light testing or refractive index analysis.
    • Quality Analysis – The grading and quality analysis of gemstone is achieved through analysis of colour, cut and clarity if any of the gemstones are pre-analysed and carry a certificate, the valuer that the certificate is of the same gemstone.
    • Size Analysis – The gemstones are measured with a Presidium gem computer gauge and, using the appropriate formulas, an approximate weight is calculated for recording or checking against the certificate.
    • Manufacturer Identification – An assessment is made on how the item was manufactured, such as cast, handmade or a combination of both. This is included in the valuation report.
    • Type and quality of setting – Each type of setting within a piece of jewellery is individually assessed for its quality and complexity as it can affect the overall valuation. There may be more than one type of setting such as grain, claw, rub-over ad channel. Every detail of the jewellery articles are calculated using scientific methods and calculations and after determining the current market values, the values are added together to form the total valuation price for the purpose stated.
    • Valuation certificate – Each component of the piece, including the mount, setting and gemstones are then given a price. These are combined to establish an estimated value based on the market purpose of the jewellery. The valuation is then recorded on an appraisal certificate together
